106TH ISSUE OF MGTS'S TELEPHONE DIRECTORY "MOSCOW-2007" NOW AVAILABLE
A new issue of Moscow-2007 Telephone Directory is now on sale. An important feature of the Moscow-2007 phone book is that it is updated owing to a massive replacement of phone numbers in the country's capital. Data on the phone numbers switched over from analog to digital exchanges is compiled and validated as of the end of December 2006.
HISTORICAL NOTE:
"Moscow-2007" is a directory inquiry phone book of many years' traditions which history dates back to 1901. The first issue was but a small brochure containing 2,860 phone numbers only. The book included telephone user instructions, specimen forms of subscriber requests, and advertisements. One of the phone books issued in mid-1930s had a gatefold with a mechanical telephone exchange diagram. The information was initially sorted out according to subscribers' professions - "lawyers", "doctors", etc. The phone number of a female subscriber could be complemented with her social status, for instance, "widow". The last edition with a list of household customers was issued in 1972. The first edition on a CD-ROM was released in 1998
