SEARCH TYPES
For Your convenience there are 3 Search Types available on this CD 1) The Search Wizard Launches Automatically on Start Up and can be disabled immediately. This offers an introductory, tutorial style, search for
first time users. - Follow the instructions through the wizard to familiarize yourself with the most common search style.
2) For easy access or links other functions and products use the "New Search" button. This will bring you to the "Main Page Search" operates as a 'Home Page'
3) For Intensive Searches, it is recommended that you use the "Bottom Bar" Once selected this search option remains on the screen, allowing you
to search without having to return regularly to another screen and can be resized or moved as required. To de-select this option return to your Options box at the top of the window and deselect the Option.
CUSTOMIZING THE RESULTS DISPLAY
Advanced users might appreciate the customization allowed by the Red Index CD-ROM. To access the customization features, click on the "Options" button on the toolbar. There are tabs from which you access customization features for different aspects of the program
SEARCH OPTIONS
Company Name
(optional)
If you have some idea of the company for which you are searching, enter the beginning of it here. For example, "stand" would match any company name beginning with "stand", such as "standard" and "Standish". Area of Search (optional)
If you wish to only search a certain area, enter that here - it may be a province, town, suburb, street or building. Area Selection
If you entered an area in step 2, then you will be presented with a list of all the areas that match your selection. They will be categorized into suburb, town, etc. Find the one that you want and highlight it Category of Search (optional)
Enter a keyword that describes the nature of the business you want to find, for example "plumbing" or "radios". The Red Index will now process your selections and present with your list of results in the search results screen. If you entered a category, then you shall be presented with a list
of matching categories. These are grouped into close matches, and related topics. The Red Index will do its best to guess what you are looking for, but with so many classifications you'll have to select the one you are looking for. Searching

Check your area
At the bottom of the screen, you shall see the area that is being searched. This will be retained between sessions. To change this area, click on "Select Another" or "Search All Areas". If you "Select Another" area then you will be presented with the Area Selection Box Enter Category (optional step)
Each entry in the Braby's Red Index is categorized under one or more categories, eg. Plumbers, Grocers. To have the Red Index search for entries in a certain category, simply enter a word describing the nature of the business. When the search commences, you will be presented with the Classification Selection box
Enter Business Name (optional step)
When you enter a business name, the Red Index will return only companies whose name begin with the specified string. For example, entering "nep" in this field would return all companies beginning with "nep".
TELEPHONE NUMBER SEARCH
Enter Phone Number
Enter the telephone number you wish to search for here. The dialing code is ignored, so you may leave it out. The entire country will be searched. Area Selection Box
The Area Selection Box is presented when you have specified an area, but the Red Index needs further interaction from you in order to perform the search Enter the Area
At the top of the box, there is an input field labeled "Area" - enter the country. Select Choice
The Red Index database will be scanned and you will be presented with a list of all areas that are in the database, and they will be shown in the list below. Highlight the area you are interested in. Classification Selection Box
The Classification Selection Box is presented when you have specified a business classification, but the Red Index needs further interaction from you in order to perform the search.
OFFICE TOOLS
A number of useful office tools have been included on the Red Index CD-ROM. To access them, you may either click the "New Search" button from
the toolbar, and select from the Red Index home page, or select the "Office Tools" button from the toolbar and select the desired tool from the menu that will pop up
SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
A Windows-9x/NT/2000 capable machine with 16MB of RAM free after booting is required. Generally speaking, if you can run Microsoft Office or
another reasonably-sized application, this program will run. You also need Microsoft Internet Explorer 4 or 5 to be installed. The Red Index will NOT work with the Internet Explorer 5.5 Technology Preview. There are a number of bugs in IE 5.5 which prohibit proper integration with the Red Index product.
